Description
Exe View Cottages, No 6, is a house that likely dates from the 1840s, possibly incorporating an earlier structure. It is built with mass wall construction, featuring painted and rendered surfaces, and a painted brick service block. The property has hipped slate roofs, with stacks that have roughcast shafts and bands topped with round terracotta chimney pots, as well as cast iron rainwater goods.
The house has a rectangular main range with a service block at the rear. There is a through passage behind the central front entrance, with rooms on either side, all heated by axial chimney stacks.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical, two-bay front. A stringcourse runs at the level of the cills of the ground floor windows, stopping at the left window. The front features a 20th-century part-glazed door and hornless sash windows with vertical glazing bars on the ground floor. The first floor has twelve-pane hornless sash windows, along with a three-light casement window with horizontal glazing bars located on the first floor of the service block on the right return.
The interior has only been partially inspected, but it includes a panelled dado in the through passage and some original fittings.
