Description
No. 1 Lower Gardens is a house dating from around 1800, with possibly an earlier core, and features additions from around 1840. It is built of red brick and has slate roofs, comprising three gabled ranges that run north-south. The house has two storeys and is topped with a coped parapet that ramps down to the sides, along with two ridge stacks.
The south front has three windows, which are glazing bar sashes with cambered heads; the ground floor windows have gauged heads. There are two central 19th-century half-glazed doors with a three-light rectangular overlight above. A 20th-century conservatory is attached to the left, replacing a former extended facade. The left-hand block, which is associated with No. 2 Lower Gardens, features a hipped slate roof, a stone eaves band, a ridge stack to the left, and two integral lateral stacks at the front on the right. The main entrance is located to the north.
Inside, there is a staircase from around 1800 that has stick balusters. There is also a ha-ha to the south.
