Description
This small house, located at 18 Higher Shapter Street, dates from around the 1730s or earlier. It is constructed with roughcast mass walling and features a slate hipped roof. The building has an L-shaped plan with a front left projection and the front door located on the right return.
The exterior consists of two storeys and presents an asymmetrical but regular one to two-bay front to the street. The left gabled projection contains a ground floor four over eight-pane sash window and a two over two-pane sash window on the first floor. The two-bay block set back to the right features 12-pane sashes with thick glazing bars, which are characteristic of the 1730s. The six-panel front door on the right return has fielded panels, and there is a small four-pane window on the first floor, likely from the 20th century. The rear elevation includes 20th-century windows.
The interior has not been inspected but may still have interesting features.
