Description

Channon's Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with some later modifications. The building is rendered and features a gabled end slate roof with brick stacks located just below the ridge. Originally, it was designed with a three-room through passage plan, with the higher end situated to the left of the passage. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a continuous volcanic trap rendered outshut under a catslide roof. There are two brick end stacks and an axial brick stack that heats the hall and backs onto the passage.

On the front, there are three windows on the ground floor, with two three-light casements to the left of the door (the left-hand one dating from the mid-19th century), each having six panes per light, and two large buttresses. The doorway is topped with a canopy supported by shaped brackets, and to the right is a four-light casement window from the 20th century. The first floor features four windows, which are two, three, and four-light casements with lintels at wall-plate level. All casements are made of timber and include glazing bars.

Inside, the lower end ground floor room, which serves as the kitchen, has two beams that are chamfered with run-out stops, as well as a large end fireplace that is now blocked. Above the former hall, two jointed crucks are exposed. Some rooms and the roof space have not been inspected.
