Description

Rose Cottage is a house, originally two cottages, dating from the late 17th century. It was heightened and altered in the 18th century. The building is constructed of cob with a stone plinth, and rendered under a thatched roof. It has two end stacks, with the one on the right being external. The house is two storeys high and has a rear lean-to. The front of the house has a three-window range. Upper floor windows just break the eaves line, including one early 19th century two-light timber casement window with six panes to each light, and two 18th century three-light timber casements with eight leaded panes to each light. The ground floor has four late 19th century two-light timber casement windows, each with six panes. The rear of the house has one 18th century two-light timber casement window with 12 leaded panes, retaining its original ring latch. There are also two other ground floor windows, and a 20th century brick lean-to on the left-hand side. Internally, the main rooms share similar characteristics, including chamfered beams with step stops, fireplaces, unchamfered hewn timber lintels, and side ovens.
