Description
Pendeen is an estate cottage, likely built in the late 17th or 18th century, with some renovations from the 20th century. It features creamwashed and rendered cob and stone, topped with a thatched roof that has a plain ridge and is half-hipped at the ends. There is a brick chimney stack on the left end. The building has a single depth plan, consisting of two rooms wide with one heated room, and a later rear outshut that has a corrugated roof.
The cottage is located on the outskirts of Broadhembury and is two storeys high. The front is asymmetrical with two windows, and the thatch eaves are eyebrowed over two first floor 2-light 20th century timber casements that have glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two 20th century casements with square leaded panes. A 20th century porch with a hipped slate roof provides access through a 20th century plank door on the left side. The interior has not been inspected. Pendeen is part of a group of small houses and cottages at Hembercombe, situated along the lane to Broadhembury Common, and may have served as a commoner's cottage.
