Description

Sunnyside is an estate house, likely built in the late 17th century but extensively remodeled in the late 19th or early 20th century. The structure is made of flint and features a thatched roof with deep eaves and a plain ridge, gabled at both ends. There is a left end stack and back-to-back fireplaces in an axial stack located to the right of the center. The building has a single-depth plan, three rooms wide, with a baffle entry against the axial stack to the right of center, and a lean-to addition at the left end.

The exterior is two storeys tall and has an asymmetrical front. It includes three first-floor gabled dormers with late 19th or early 20th century shaped pierced bargeboards that match those on the left gable end. There are five ground floor windows, all featuring flat cut stone arches. A wide open-fronted thatched porch supported by posts has attractive lattice sides. The front door, made of planks, is located to the left under the porch, while to the right, an additional vertical post forms a doorframe with shaped spandrels facing a small bench. All windows are fitted with 20th century three-light casements with square leaded panes in the outer lights.

Inside, the first room on the right has a chamfered axial beam with a scroll stop indicative of late 17th century design. A timber post embedded in the rear wall may be a cruck foot, although its partner was not found on the front wall during renovations. There is an open fireplace with a rough timber lintel, while other chimney-pieces date from the late 19th or 20th century. Sunnyside is situated at the west end of an outstanding village.
