Description
The Old Bakery is a house that was formerly two cottages, likely built in the 19th century. It is constructed of creamwashed stone rubble and features a thatched roof with a plain ridge and half-hipped ends, along with an axial stack. The building has a single depth range with an outshut and a central entrance, originally designed as a pair of purpose-built cottages with porches on both sides.
The exterior is two storeys high and presents a symmetrical front with four windows. The windows are regularly spaced, featuring a 20th-century shallow gabled central porch with a 20th-century door. The outer bays include two-light casement windows with glazing bars and trefoil-headed lights beneath square-headed lintels, while the remaining windows are three-light casements with high transoms.
Although the interior has not been inspected, the house is located in the centre of a remarkable estate village. The choice to creamwash the exterior helps it blend with the earlier creamwashed cob and thatch houses in the area.
