Description
The Old Post Office is an estate house located on the north side of Broadhembury village. It likely dates from the 17th century or earlier, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is creamwashed and rendered, featuring a thatched roof with a plain ridge and an axial stack.
It is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with three windows. The approximately central front door is a plank style from the 19th or 20th century, and the thatch above the eaves is eyebrowed over two first-floor windows from the same period. To the right, there are large paired timber doors. The front door is flanked by three-light timber windows with glazing bars, while the left first-floor window is similar. The right first-floor window and the right ground-floor window are 20th-century two-light casements with square leaded panes.
Although the interior was not inspected, it may contain interesting features. The Old Post Office is situated in a remarkably well-preserved estate village known for its thatched houses and cottages.
