Description
Rose is an estate cottage located on the north side of Broadhembury village. It is likely from the 17th century or earlier, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The cottage is creamwashed and rendered, topped with a thatched roof that has a plain ridge. There is a left end stack that may be shared with the adjoining Post Office house. The layout is not entirely clear as the interior was not inspected, but it probably consists of one room in a single depth block with a rear lean-to.
The exterior features an asymmetrical front with one window. To the right, there is a 19th or 20th-century plank front door, which is sheltered by a thatched porch hood. The eaves of the thatch are eyebrowed over the first-floor window, which is a three-light timber casement with glazing bars from the 19th or 20th century. There is a similar ground floor window to the left of the front door. Although the interior was not inspected, it may have features of interest. The Post Office house to the left is at least from the 17th century. Rose is situated in the center of a remarkable, unspoiled estate village characterized by thatched houses.
