Description

Hembercombe Farm Cottage is a small house, likely dating from the 18th century or earlier. The exterior is whitewashed and rendered, with a thatched roof that is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right. There are stacks at both the right end and along the main axis of the house. The plan appears to be a single-depth, two-room layout, with a projection to the front right. A lean-to has been added to the rear, and this is now the main entrance point. The interior has not been inspected. The front facade is asymmetrical, featuring a two-storey projection on the right with a catslide roof. It has a two-window front, with three-light timber casement windows, probably dating to the 20th century, featuring glazing bars. The cottage is part of a group of thatched houses and cottages along the lane leading to Broadhembury Common, situated just outside the village, and is thought to have been a commoner's dwelling.
