Description
Woodbine Cottage is a small house, likely built in the late 17th or 18th century. It features whitewashed rendered cob and stone with a thatched roof that has a plain ridge and is half-hipped at the ends, along with end stacks. The building is oriented end on to the lane and has a single depth plan, consisting of two rooms wide with a central entrance. There is probably a later single-storey outshut at the right end, which has a slate roof.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical front that has two windows. It includes a central 20th-century gabled porch supported by posts and a plank front door. The first floor has two gabled dormers, each fitted with 20th-century casements that have square leaded panes, while the ground floor windows are similar. The interior has not been inspected. Woodbine Cottage is part of a group of small houses located at Hembercombe, along the lane leading to Broadhembury Common, just outside Broadhembury village. It may have originally served as a commoner's cottage.
