Description
Clay's Cottage is a mid-19th century cottage that is part of a row of buildings. It may incorporate some earlier work. The cottage is constructed from random rubble limestone and features a gabled-end pantiled roof. It has a two-room layout with a central entrance hall that contains the stairs, and there are end stacks, with the left-hand stack being external. To the right-hand end of the front, there is a projection under a small catslide, which is likely the remains of a stair turret that originally served No. 1 Clay's Cottage. The building has two storeys.
The front of the cottage has three windows: two 24-pane sash windows and a central 12-pane horizontally sliding sash window on the first floor, all with wooden sill guide pegs. The ground floor features similar 18-pane sash windows, along with a 20th-century pantiled central porch.
