Description

Two dwellings, dating to the late 16th century and remodelled in the mid-19th century. The front is built of random rubble with cob to the rear, all covered in roughcast. It has a gabled-end slate roof. Originally, the house was a 3-room, through-passage plan, with the service end likely to the left of the passage. A later range was added to the rear, creating an overall double-depth plan. There are two end stacks, with the one on the right now incorporated into a neighbouring property, and some evidence suggests an original axial stack backed onto the passage.

The front has a 5-window range. The first floor has three tripartite 4:12:4 pane, and two 12-pane, hornless sash windows. There are two entrances: one to the left, possibly to the former passage, with a wide doorway, panelled door, and open porch, and another to Little Thornbury. A tripartite French window is located on the left, a 8:16:8 pane hornless sash canted bay window is between the doorways, and a tripartite sash window, matching the first-floor window, is at the extreme right. The rear has five 12-pane hornless sash windows to the first floor, and three below; the remaining windows are 20th-century additions.

Inside Thornbury, there is an end fireplace with a side oven, while the rest of the joinery dates to the mid-19th century. The roof structure consists of six jointed crucks with conventionally morticed and pegged carpentry, a diagonal ridge-piece, trenched purlins, all in good condition.
