Description

Brook Cottage is a Grade II listed cottage, originally two separate cottages, likely built in the 18th century and refurbished in the late 19th century. The structure features plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with some exposed cob at the rear and part of the rear faced with 19th-century brick. It has stone rubble or brick stacks topped with 19th-century brick and Rolle Estate chimney pots, and a thatched roof.

Originally, the cottage had a two-room plan facing east with a stack at the left end, while the right end housed a one-room plan cottage with a stack in the party wall. The right cottage is slightly misaligned and may have been added later. The two cottages have been combined into a single residence.

The building is two storeys high and has an irregular four-window front featuring various 19th and 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The front doorway, located at the right end of the former larger cottage, contains a plank door, while the former doorway to the smaller cottage is blocked off to the right. The roof is gable-ended.

Brook Cottage is part of a charming group of thatched buildings and is positioned forward from Pear Tree Cottage, which is adjacent to the left. The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the survey.
