Description
Dira Cottage is a Grade II listed building that dates back to the 18th century. Originally two separate cottages, it is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with rubble stacks topped by 20th-century brick chimney shafts and a thatched roof. The cottage features a pair of adjoining two-room units that face east, away from the road, with continuous outshots at the rear.
The building is two storeys high and has an irregular four-window front, which includes 19th and 20th-century casements, most of which have glazing bars. The right (north) cottage has a symmetrical two-window front with a central door, while the left (south) cottage has a large projecting stack in the centre, with an oven projection to the right. This side also has a window on each floor to the right and a ground floor window only to the left, with the door located at the left end. The roof is half-hipped on the left and hipped on the right. The interior remains unmodernised, showcasing plain carpentry details.
