Description

This is an 18th-century cottage, possibly with earlier origins, and refurbished in the late 19th century. It is located on the west side of High Street in East Budleigh. The cottage is constructed with plastered cob on stone rubble footings, and has stacks of stone rubble or brick, featuring late 19th-century brick chimney shafts. One stack has a Rolle Estate chimney pot, and the roof is thatched. The building follows a two-room plan, facing east onto High Street. A stack is positioned on the left (southern) side of the building, and a rear stack to the right. An outshot extends to the rear of the left room.

The two-storey front facade has an irregular arrangement of 2 windows, featuring 19th-century casements with rectangular panes of leaded glass. The ground floor window to the right has a single light with glazing bars, while the other is leaded in a 20th-century style. A doorway, slightly right of centre, incorporates a late 19th- or early 20th-century four-panel door and a 20th-century gabled porch with slated ends supported by raking struts. The left stack is tall, and the left wall recesses slightly. The interior was not inspected, but the owners report no visible carpentry detail and an inaccessible roof. No. 11 High Street is part of a group of attractive buildings along High Street, rising toward the Church of All Saints.
