Description
15 High Street is a cottage, likely from the 18th century but possibly older, that was refurbished in the late 19th century. It features plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with stone rubble stacks topped with 19th-century brick, and a thatched roof. The cottage has a two-room plan and is part of a terrace facing east onto High Street. The left room is larger than the right, with a central entrance hall and staircase, and end stacks. It is two storeys high with an irregular four-window front, mostly consisting of 19th and 20th-century casements with glazing bars, along with two relatively small 12-pane sashes on the first floor to the left. The doorway, located slightly to the right of centre, has a 20th-century part-glazed four-panel door. The roof is gable-ended towards Hayes Lane on the right and extends continuously over Hollytree Cottage to the left. The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the survey, but the owner reports no exposed carpentry and that the roof is not accessible. 15 High Street is part of a group of varied and attractive buildings, most of which are listed, lining High Street as it rises to the Church of All Saints.
