Description
A pair of cottages dating from the late 19th century, situated on the east side of High Street, East Budleigh. The cottages are constructed of brick, plastered to the front, with brick stacks topped by 19th-century chimney pots and a thatched roof.
Number 18, on the right, features a single-room plan with a stack on the south side and stairs positioned against the shared left wall. Number 20, located between Number 18 and the Sir Walter Raleigh Public House, has a two-room plan with a central staircase and end stacks within the party walls.
The cottages present a symmetrical three-window facade. Number 20 retains its original horizontal sliding sash windows with glazing bars, whereas Number 18 has replacement casement windows with glazing bars. Both cottages have doorways with elliptical arches, containing original six-panel doors. The roof continues with that of the Sir Walter Raleigh Public House to the left and slopes down in a hip to the right. The interiors have not been inspected.
Numbers 18 and 20 High Street are part of a group of attractive and varied buildings that line the High Street as it rises towards the Church of All Saints.
