Description
No. 9 High Street is a cottage, likely from the 18th century but possibly older, that was refurbished in the late 19th century. It features plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with a stone rubble or brick stack topped with late 19th-century brick and a Rolle Estate chimney pot. The thatched roof has a two-room plan and faces east onto High Street, with a projecting left (western) end stack. The cottage is two storeys high and has an irregular two-window front, with only one window on the first floor. The windows are 19th-century casements with glazing bars, and there is a late 19th-century four-panel door at the left end, accompanied by a 20th-century flat hood. The roof is gable-ended to the left and extends continuously over the adjoining No. 11 High Street. The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the survey. No. 9 is part of a group of attractive and varied buildings, most of which are listed, that line High Street as it rises to the Church of All Saints.
