Description

Heathfield Cottage is a 17th-century cottage situated on Netherexe Green Lane. The cottage is constructed of cob, rendered on a stone plinth, and has a thatched roof, likely wheatreed, which is half-hipped to the left and features an end stack on the right-hand side. The front of the cottage has a central door, with a three-light timber casement window, each with six panes, to either side. A lean-to structure is situated on the left-hand side, featuring a massive horizontal beam and roof support. The left-hand room contains a chamfered main beam, and the right-hand room also has a chamfered main beam along with a fireplace constructed with Thorverton stone jambs and a wooden lintol, both chamfered with scroll stops. A side oven incorporates an old wooden door. A newel staircase is positioned opposite the doorway. Internally, the roof structure reveals pegged and tenoned principals and collars.
