Description
This is a circa 1830 pair of houses, originally known as Bridgefield House and Sidd Dairy, situated by a river, and which formerly included a mill. Part of the original riverside block has been demolished, leaving the Mill House as number 20 and the adjoining residential property as number 21.
The houses are two storeys high, constructed with rough cast rendering and have a low-pitched gable end slate roof with overhanging eaves. Number 20 has been restored and features a symmetrical four-window front. The inner windows are modern casements, while the outer windows are moulded flush-framed sashes with intact glazing bars, set in shallow full-height bows. The first-floor windows on number 20 have a shallow frieze and cornice. A central renovated porch has square columns and a boxed entablature, with a modern door. Number 21 has a symmetrical three-window front with a central first-floor sash window in a moulded flush frame, retaining its glazing bars. The outer windows are in slightly projecting bays, featuring bowed sashes with intact glazing bars, with a frieze and cornice carried full width of the bay on the first floor. A central porch has square columns with pilasters leading to a recessed door of six flush panels, including a decorative lion head door knocker. The property forms an attractive group with the ford nearby.
