Description
The Hollies Guest House is a building dating from around 1840 to 1850, originally part of a semi-detached pair. It stands three storeys tall and features a stucco-faced main block with slightly recessed three-storey wings. The facade is adorned with pilaster strips that have incised panels flanking both the wings and the main block. The roof is a low-pitched hipped slate design.
The main block has two windows, while each wing has one window, which are narrower. The wings and the second-floor center have recessed sash windows with later glazing and drip moulds above. There are narrow canted superimposed bay windows on the ground and first floors of the new block, featuring casements, plate glass lights, moulded cornices, and plain aprons.
Enclosed stuccoed porches project from the ground floor of the wings, supported by flanking pilasters with incised panels that hold up an entablature. The porches have round-headed side lights and recessed modern doors, but retain original rectangular fanlights with marginal glazing.
The Hollies Guest House, along with Nos 1 to 4 Albert Terrace, Barrington Villa, and the garden wall of Barrington Villa, form a group of buildings of historical significance.
