Description
Myrtle Lodge, originally known as Myrtle Cottage, is one of the earliest cottages in Sidmouth, dating back to the early 19th century. In 1813, Keble brought a reading party to this location. The building features a long, irregular two-storey stucco front with three storeys visible in the gables. It has two gables of different sizes, one of which is very steeply pitched. The design includes picturesque Gothic details, such as ornamental bargeboards and eaves fascias, oriel windows, and pointed casements with scale-shaped lights at their heads. Some of the glazing bars are missing, while others display a diamond glazing pattern. The ground floor features a splayed Gothic bay. The house is surrounded by high trees, adding to its secluded character.
