Gate Posts, Gates And Adjoining Railings Approximately 100 Metres East Of Rockbeare Manor

The gate posts, gates, and adjoining railings located approximately 100 metres east of Rockbeare Manor date from around 1820. They feature red brick piers with sandstone ashlar bases and caps, along with wrought iron railings and gates. The gates are set within a recess, with the railings curving into small brick piers. Quadrant rails extend from these piers to the taller gate piers, which are square in section and constructed from brick, featuring moulded bases and soffit-moulded caps. Each pier is topped with a carved stone lion; the lions on the gate piers are seated, while those on the outer piers are lying down. The railings are designed with plain spear heads, and the double gates have outer stiles adorned with vase caps. The top rail of each gate curves downwards, creating a continuous overall curve. The upper rails are widely spaced and include twisted spikes between them, while the double lockrail is simply enhanced with twisted spikes. The lower section consists of simple geometric panels also featuring twisted spikes.
