Description
SY 09 SW ROCKBEARE RAG LANE
3/117 Gate posts, gates and adjoining 1l.11.52 railings approximately 100 metres east of Rockbeare Manor GV II Gate posts, gates and railings. Circa 1820. Red brick piers with sandstone ashlar bases and caps, wrought iron railings and gates. The gates are set in a recess as the railings curve in to small brick piers. From here quadrant rails curve to the taller gate piers. Both piers are square in section and made of brick with moulded bases and soffit-moulded caps. Each is surmounted by a carved stone lion; those on the gate piers sejant and those on the outer piers couchant. The railings have plain spear heads. The double gates have outer stiles with vase caps. The top rail of each curves down to create a continuous curve overall. The upper rails are widely spaced with twisted spikes between. The double lockrail is enriched only with twisted spikes. The lower section has simple geometric panels with twisted spikes.
