Description
Nos 52 to 54 on Stallard Street were built around 1878, likely designed by local architect William Smith. This Italianate building has three storeys and is constructed with an ashlar front. It features slightly angled corners framed by pier strips, with cill bands on the first and second floors, a cornice band, and a blocking course. The facade includes two pairs of windows in the center and two additional windows on each side. These windows are plate glass sashes, round-headed, and adorned with architraves and keystones, along with an impost moulding of acanthus leaves that is wider on the first floor than on the second. On the ground floor, there is one segmental-headed window with rustic quoins and voussoirs, and to the left of No 53, a round-headed doorway shares a similar design. This doorway features a late 19th-century shop front with three panelled pilasters and brackets for the fascia. No 52 has a wide 20th-century shop front with a central entrance. Nos 50 to 58, along with a workshop at the rear of No 58 and the entrance screen to the principal Factory and Handle House at Studley Mills, form a cohesive group.
