Description
Nos 50 and 51 on Stallard Street were built around 1878, likely by the local architect William Smith. This three-storey building is constructed of ashlar stone and features decorative elements that relate to the adjacent Nos 52-57. It has two ranges of windows, with the first and second floor cills bending, a side pier on the right, and a cornice with a blocking course. The roof is covered with asbestos tiles, featuring coped verges on the left, a hip on the right, and a small dormer on the left.
On the second floor, there are wide casement windows set in recesses with raised cills, adorned with an acanthus string at head level. The first-floor windows have segmental heads with keys and an acanthus string just below the impost level. The building also has a contemporary stone shop front with two doorways, five pilasters, and a dentil cornice above the fascia.
Nos 50 to 58, along with a workshop at the rear of No 58 and the entrance screen to the principal Factory and Handle House at Studley Mills, form a cohesive group.
