Description
These are a group of cottages located at 50 to 56 Barnard Street, dating from around 1800. They are two storeys high and constructed of red brick, topped with an old tile roof that has a hipped design over the corner. The cottages feature small dormers with sloping roofs. Numbers 56 Barnard Street and 131 Love Lane are finished in stucco. Each cottage has one window, except for 56 Barnard Street, which has two sliding sash windows with small panes. Number 50 Barnard Street includes a small early 19th-century shop window with six panes, flanked by pilasters, and a panelled and glazed door, also with flanking pilasters, all beneath a common frieze and cornice. There is a similar small pilaster-framed window on Love Lane, associated with No 125 Love Lane, which is now part of No 50 Barnard Street. The doors are either flush panelled or made of planks. The doorcase of No 56 Barnard Street features pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The cottages are situated on a corner site that includes Nos 127 to 131 (odd) Love Lane.
