Description

The wall to West Lavington Manor, dating from the 16th century, is located along the south garden adjacent to the road. It is constructed from greensand rubble with limestone copings and has been extended in brick. The wall stands approximately 3.3 meters high and features twice offset and throated roll and hogsback copings, along with two buttresses. It extends about 7 meters from the south-west corner of the house, which contains a pedestrian gate, and continues from an arched gate for approximately 114 meters to the south, stepping down nine times to follow the slope of the hill. At the southern end, the wall continues in 34-centimeter brick laid in mixed bond, with a cogged band and sloped brickwork leading to a 22-centimeter brick coping. The wall includes stone quoins with a benchmark, and near the south end, there is a chamfered Tudor arch in stone, featuring a boarded studded gate set to a rebate.
