Description
West Lavington Manor is a manor house, now used as offices, that dates back to the 16th century but has undergone significant alterations in 1908 and the 1980s. The building is constructed of greensand rubble with limestone quoins and features a tiled roof. At the rear, there is a single-storey wing made of 17th-century brick with a pantiled roof. The main block consists of two storeys and attics, showcasing four gables. The first gable is an addition, while the second is the main gable, which, along with two bays, includes a small gable that has a recessed entrance in an arch. The fourth gable features an angled two-storey bay window.
The windows are stone mullioned and transomed, with a hollow chamfered window in the added first gable. The main gable has Venetian French windows on the ground floor, flanked by niches, and a very large sundial is set into the gable. All gables are topped with raised ball finials. Facing the street, there are inset hollow chamfered two-light windows, with three renewed on the ground floor, all featuring limestone relieving arches. The rear wing, which runs along the road, has four bays, with the fourth bay raised as a gable in the 20th century. The windows here are four-paned sashes. The rear of the building has two major gabled wings and various later extensions. The interior has not been seen, but the porch displays the initials of the Dauntsey family from 1571 and 1559.
