Group Of 16 Plummer And Large Monuments 12 Metres South West Of South Porch, Church Of St Mary

This is a group of 16 chest tombs, primarily made of sandstone, located 12 meters southwest of the south porch of the Church of St. Mary. These monuments date from the 18th century and early 19th century and are arranged in three rows.

In the east row, from north to south, the first tomb is made of limestone with a raised casket top, fluted pilasters, and a moulded base, dedicated to William Sheppard, who died in 1826. The second is a low moulded table, partially buried, for Richard Plummer, who died in 1758, and his wife. The third is similar to the second, dedicated to another Richard Plummer, with the date of burial not specified, and his wife. The fourth features a moulded table and base with recessed corner balusters, inscribed to George Sutton, who died in 1819.

In the middle row, starting from the north, the first tomb has a decorated hipped table and recessed corner balusters, inscribed to Edward Plummer, who died in 1844, and his wife Sarah. The second is a moulded table and base with recessed corner balusters, decorated in the corners, for Edward Deane, who died in 1776. The third is a limestone oval chest tomb with a moulded table and base, raised panels, and shields at the ends, dedicated to Edward Plummer, though the date is not legible. The fourth tomb is limestone with a moulded table and base and recessed corner balusters, for Thomas Plummer, who died in 1797. The fifth features a moulded table and base with recessed corner balusters, inscribed in an oval panel for William Plummer, who died in 1866. The sixth is similar but has a hipped table, dedicated to Richard Plummer, who died in 1824. The seventh is similar but with a flat table, for Thomas Plummer, who died in 1838.

In the west row, starting from the north, the first tomb has a moulded table and base with recessed corner balusters, for William Large, who died in 1823. The second is similar, dedicated to William and Rachel Large, who died in 1807 and 1815. The third is similar but has an inscribed table, for Robert and Elizabeth Large, who died in 1834 and 1842. The fourth features a hipped and decorated table with a moulded base and recessed fluted corner balusters, dedicated to William Large, who died in 1850, and his wife Mary, who died in 1838.
