Description

This is a group of three chest tombs located in the churchyard, approximately 2 to 6 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Michael. They date from the early 19th century and are made of limestone.

From north to south, the first tomb features a corniced table with floral flush pilasters at the corners and center, and an inscription in panels with floral corners dedicated to Jane, the wife of John, although the date of her death is illegible. The second tomb has a cyma table design with raised corner and center pilasters adorned with foliage carving, and raised oval panels that are not readable. The third tomb is another corniced table with floral end and center pilasters that separate raised shields. It features a death's head and bones at one end and commemorates Joseph Pierce and his wife, who died in 1743 and 1763, respectively, as well as Clara Pierce, who died in 1924, Jane Pierce, who died in 1816, and James Pierce, who died in 1888.
