Description

Mulberry House is a house located on Urchfont High Street, dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is likely a front block to an earlier cottage. The building is constructed of brick and has a stone tiled roof. It stands two storeys tall with attics and a cellar, featuring five bays. The central bay is slightly projected forward, and there is a plat band on the side bays that offsets to continuous brick dentilled eaves. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door from the early 19th century, which is sheltered by a circular swept copper-clad canopy supported by slender iron columns. The windows are twelve-paned sashes with wide boxes, gauged brick lintels, and stone sills. Three gabled dormers with stone slated cheeks are present on the roof.

At the rear of the building, there is an original early 18th-century pedimented and dentilled doorcase with a hood on consoles, located at the end of the rear wing. The right side of the rear block has been rebuilt or heightened from an earlier structure in the early to mid-19th century. Inside, the house features a stair hall with a fine 18th-century dog leg stair and turned balusters. The right parlour has an acanthus cornice, while the left parlour contains 20th-century panelling and an early 19th-century fireplace. Earlier cross beams can be seen in the rear kitchen.
