Description
The Whiting Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 5 metres south of the tower of the Church of St. Alfred the Great. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a plinth, two lias panels, and quarter balusters on the main sides, with fielded panels on the ends. It has a cornice, a plain frieze, and a moulded flat top. The earliest legible inscription on the monument is for Ann Whiting, who died in 1805.
