Description

Rest Harrow is a detached cottage located on the north side of West Street in Great Wishford. It dates from the mid-17th century and was altered in the late 18th century. The building is constructed from flint and limestone, topped with a thatched roof and features gable end brick stacks.

The cottage is two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are casements. There is a six-panelled door in a beaded case with a gabled porch positioned to the right of centre, and a 3-light segmental-headed casement on either side of the door. On the first floor, there are three 3-light segmental-headed casements. The verges are coped.

The left side of the cottage showcases banded flint and stone, with a 2-light ovolo-moulded casement on the first floor and a diamond leaded casement in the attic. The right side has a single-light casement on the first floor. At the rear, there is an outshut to the left and a 19th-century extension made of flint and brick, which has a double Roman tiled roof.

Inside, the cottage retains a deep chamfered beam with bar stops, an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel set on chamfered stone jambs, and planked doors with strap hinges. The east room features a late 18th-century Adam-style fireplace, although its ornamentation is damaged.
