Description
The White Cottage is a detached cottage located on the south side of Fore Street in Wylye. It dates from the late 17th century, with 18th and 20th-century extensions. The building features a combination of banded flint and limestone, topped with a thatched roof that has brick stacks and coped verges. The gable end faces the road.
The cottage is a single storey with an attic and has two windows that are casements. The original 17th-century part includes two-light casements, a glazed door, and a three-light casement on the east front. The attic features two eyebrow dormers with three-light casements. The 18th-century addition to the south includes a 20th-century door and casements, while the 20th-century extension to the south adds another storey. The rear of the cottage has two-light and single casements, along with two eyebrow dormers that have two-light leaded casements.
Inside, the cottage is said to have an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel set on stone jambs, along with a moulded beam and exposed joists.
