Description
A pair of semi-detached houses, built around 1870, are located on Marshfield Road in Chippenham. The houses are constructed from squared limestone rubble with freestone dressings to the front facade, and English-bond brick elsewhere. They have hipped slate roofs and axial ashlar ridge stacks with plinths and cornices. Each house features a double-depth plan, and the pair presents a symmetrical appearance with a two-window range. The first-floor plate glass sash windows have moulded architraves that integrate into the eaves cornice, along with a continuous sill band. The central entrance has paired doors set within stone Tuscan doorcases, which share a dentilled pediment topped with a carved tympanum and an urn finial. Canted bays with cornices and blocking courses are situated on either side of the entrance. The interiors have not been inspected. The front gardens are enclosed by low rubble stone walls with chamfered capping, punctuated by large piers that have dentilled cornices and pyramidal caps. The buildings demonstrate group value.
