Description
A'Becketts is a large house located on High Street in Littleton Pannell, built in the late 17th to early 18th century and enlarged in 1904 by E.P. Warren. The building is constructed of brick in English bond with flush stone quoins and greensand sills, topped with tiled roofs. It has two storeys and the original structure now forms the east wing, which features five bays facing east. The central entrance boasts a bolection moulded doorcase with a two-panelled oak door, above which are mantled arms on a bracket. The windows are reserved chamfered stone cross windows with leaded glazing, and there is a moulded string course running along the building. A central pedimented panel displays the inscription 'The Residence of the Ancient FAMILY OF A'BECKETT. Restored and enlarged by H.T. Holloway Anno Do. 1904', with a brick section below inscribed T.A.R. 1767. The entrance is adorned with an iron lantern on a round bracket and a bell pull, and there are two hipped dormers.
At the rear, the house was significantly enlarged in 1904, featuring a symmetrical elevation to the south. This includes two-storey stone moulded and transomed canted bays on the end wings, with a recessed central section that has a triple stone arcade and a balustrade to the balcony above. A Shavian window is located at the centre of the first floor, flanked by three dormer windows, the central one topped with a segmental pediment. There is also a flat-roofed extension to the left, which is balustraded and includes a Shavian window and an angled bay on its west side. Inside, the entrance hall on the south side features a tiled fireplace.
