Description
The doorway and section of the kitchen garden wall to Market Lavington Manor date from the mid 19th century. The wall is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork, featuring an inset cogged brick course and stone copings. It stands approximately 2.5 meters high, arching over the doorway, and extends about 13 meters on either side of the door to the corners. The doorway itself is made of stone and originates from the late 17th century, having been relocated from the 16th-century Old Parsonage on Parsonage Lane, which was demolished in 1862. The doorway is framed by panelled pilasters and staff-mouldings, with a keyblock in the lintel. Above the doorway is a stone shell canopy supported by acanthus-carved consoles, which features mantled arms at the center. The rear of the wall is plain.
