Description
The Black Horse is an inn dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with a tiled roof and features gable-end brick stacks. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys with four windows. To the right of the centre, there is a six-panelled door with a flat wooden hood supported by posts. On either side of the door are two-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows, all beneath a single hoodmould. The sides of the building have three-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows, each with its own hoodmould.
On the first floor, there are three three-light mullioned windows and one small blocked light to the left. The roof has coped verges. Attached to the left side is a single-storey extension with a pantiled roof, which includes an early 19th-century half-octagonal extension at the front featuring 12-pane sash windows and a hipped slate roof. The left return of this extension has a cylindrical bread oven.
At the rear, there is a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor, along with attached single-storey 20th-century extensions. The right extension is designed in the same style with a hipped roof, while the first floor has both three-light and two-light mullioned windows. The rear wing to the left has a two-light mullioned window and a hipped roof. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a timber lintel set on limestone jambs.
