Description

Greystones is a mid-19th century farmhouse associated with Home Farm, constructed from limestone ashlar with a Welsh slate roof. The building features gable-end brick stacks, with the right stack having moulded ashlar capping. It is three stories high and has three windows on the front facade. The central entrance consists of a four-panelled door set within a porch supported by square columns and an entablature, with two-light margin-pane casements on either side.

On the first and second floors, there are three two-light casements, with the middle one being narrower. The left side of the building includes margin-pane French windows, a 20th-century two-light casement, and a first floor with a two-light leaded casement and a 20th-century steel casement. The right side features a two-storey extension that has a two-light margin-pane casement, a four-panelled door, and a hipped slate roof.

At the rear, there is a 19th-century two-storey added parallel range with two-light casements and a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor. The roof has coped verges. Attached to the front is a single-storey range of outhouses that includes a planked door and two three-light ovolo-mullioned windows, likely reset, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof.

Inside, the farmhouse has planked doors and four-panelled doors set in moulded architraves, along with stairs featuring stick balusters and round newels at both the front and back. There is an open fireplace with a chamfered cambered lintel in the room to the right of the front door, and the ceilings have chamfered beams with ogee stops. The first floor includes a reset 17th-century panelled door with cock's head hinges. Greystones is a typical example of a 19th-century farmhouse that showcases both classical and vernacular architectural features.
