Description
Montague Cottage is a detached cottage dated 1682, as indicated by a stone tablet over the door. It is constructed of rubble stone with a thatched roof and features gable-end brick stacks. The building is two stories tall and has two windows on the front. The central entrance consists of a planked door set within a chamfered wooden case, located in a gabled porch with pantiles. To the left of the door is a 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned window, and to the right is a 3-light ovolo-mullioned window, both with hoodmoulds. On the first floor, there are two 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows. The left side of the cottage has a 2-light mullioned window on both the ground and first floors, and a 1-light chamfered casement window in the attic. Attached to the cottage is a single-storey weatherboarded lean-to shed. The rear features a 3-light mullioned window and a 20th-century 3-light casement window on the ground floor, along with a 2-light mullioned window and a 20th-century casement window on the first floor. The roof has coped verges. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a cambered lintel resting on brick jambs in the north room, along with some 20th-century alterations.
