Description

A terrace of six weavers' cottages built in the early 19th century on London Road, Chippenham. The cottages are constructed of limestone ashlar, much of which is now painted, and have a continuous slate roof. Stone stacks, some with brick shafts, are located on the party walls, and there is stone coping to the left gable end. The cottages have double-depth plans and are arranged over three storeys. Originally, they had 6/6-pane sash windows, although many have been replaced with later 19th-century and 20th-century windows. Number 4 has some original 19th-century windows, including plate glass sashes on the second floor and a margin-paned sash above the 20th-century front door, with the remaining windows being 6/6-pane sashes. A wide carriage entrance is located on the far left, leading to other cottages. The cottage at number 12 on the right has a 20th-century shop front. The interior of the cottages has not been inspected.
