Description
This is a timber-framed building dating to around 1500, with alterations from the 18th century. It occupies numbers 60 to 66 on St Anne's Street. The building has plaster infilling between the timber framing and an old tile roof covering the gabled ends. The front of the building has five 18th-century sash windows with intact glazing bars, framed by flush architraves. Number 60 has a three-light shop window and door, with possible reset carved wood strips on either side. Number 66 has a 19th-century double shop front. A central passage provides access to the rear wings, which are primarily of painted brick with 18th and 19th-century sash windows framed by flush architraves. The south ends of both wings are timber-framed; number 66's wing features a jettied first floor with weatherboarding.
Inside number 60, there are chamfered beams and two exposed roof trusses displaying collars, principals, curved struts between collars, and windbraces. Number 66’s interior retains an exposed tie beam in the east end wall and remains of a partition truss with a cambered tie beam and curved braces. The south end of number 66 shows a tie beam, curved braces to wall posts, a raised centre collar with linking curved struts, butt purlins, and curved windbraces. The building is part of a group value context with numbers 44 to 74 (even) and 78 to 82 (even) on St Anne's Street.
