Description

Dene Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of squared sarsen stone and features a thatched roof. The building has two storeys and attics, with walls that are battered. It consists of four bays, with the second bay from the left being narrower and containing the entrance and stairway. The entrance has been altered and now features a glazed door. To the left, there is a large paired sash window in the living room. The farmhouse has three original windows on the upper floor and one on the lower floor, all made of stone with moulded surrounds, mullions, and labels, with the upper floor windows also having transoms. The third bay includes a 12-pane sash window. There are two small dormers and one dormer at the right end of the roof, which is hipped. To the left, there is a brick and sarsen rear wing, which was formerly a dairy, consisting of three bays and featuring a 20th-century verandah in the re-entrant angle. Inside, the staircase has a wavy splat balustrade leading to the attic level, and the ceiling beams are boxed with pegged collar trusses.
