Description

This large cottage, located at the end of a row in Steeple Langford, dates from the late 17th century and was altered around 1800. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with a tiled roof and brick stacks. The building is two stories high and features three-windowed sashes. A central four-panelled door is set in a gabled porch, with 12-pane flush sashes on either side. There is a three-brick plat band with a toothed lower course at the first floor, and a nine-pane sash on either side of a six-pane sash. The cottage has chamfered rusticated limestone quoins and coped verges.

To the left of the main building is an 18th-century extension that includes a 20th-century two-light casement and a yellow brick plat band, with a two-light casement on the first floor. To the right is a single-storey carriage house made of flint and brick, featuring a single casement and a three-brick plat band with toothing. The right return of the carriage house has an inserted garage door with a planked loft door above, and a half-hipped roof gable.

At the rear of the main building, there is a 19th-century outshut with a double Roman tiled roof and casements. Inside, the cottage includes stairs with stick balusters, a ramped handrail with shaped brackets, chamfered beams with run-out stops, and an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel. The first floor features doors with two fielded panels and H hinges.
