Description

Guelder Cottage is a semi-detached cottage dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with some cob and brick, and features a half-hipped thatched roof with brick stacks. The building has an L-shape and was originally designed with a through passage plan. It is two stories tall and has four windows, all fitted with casements. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door, flanked by two 2-light casements on the left, a single casement in a blocked doorway, and two more 2-light casements on the right. On the first floor, there are three 2-light casements and one single light casement.

To the right, there is a short cross wing with brick raised eaves and limestone quoins, featuring two top-hung casements on the ground floor and a 2-light casement on the first floor. The right return also has 2-light casements, while the rear includes a planked door leading to the through passage and additional casements. Inside, the cottage contains two winding staircases: one located against the through passage and the other in the cross wing next to the stack. There are two open fireplaces; the western fireplace has a beaded lintel on stone jambs, while the fireplace in the cross wing features a deeply chamfered lintel on chamfered stone jambs. The ceiling beams are chamfered and have stepped stops.
