Description

The Village School and Master's House, now functioning as a village hall, was built between 1857 and 1858 by William White. It is constructed from flint rubble with red brick dressings and features a plain tile roof with gabled ends and half-hipped gables. The building has brick lateral, axial, and gable-end stacks with set-offs and batters.

The layout includes three schoolrooms arranged at right angles to each other, with the master's house attached to the northeast. The design reflects the Gothic Domestic Revival style. The exterior consists of single-storey schoolrooms and a one-storey and attic master's house, characterized by asymmetrical gabled elevations.

On the south front, there is a projecting gable on the left with a tall pointed-arch window and short angle-buttresses. To the right, a gabled porch is supported by flanking weathered buttresses, leading to a gable with deep verges. Two tall pointed-arch windows are positioned to the right, separated by a buttress that rises into a small half-hipped gable topped with a wrought-iron finial.

The west side features a gable on the right with a tall pointed-arch window, while a large porch is located in the angle on the left, also supported by weathered buttresses. A gable set back on the left has a pointed-arch window with a sexfoil light.

On the east side, the master's house is on the right, showcasing two half-hipped dormers and windows with twin pointed-arch heads. A gable set back on the left includes a tall pointed-arch window and a porch in the angle, flanked by weathered buttresses that support a gable with herring-bone infilling and deep verges.

Inside, the schoolrooms feature arched-brace roofs, later suspended ceilings, and folding partitions.
