Description
Manor Farm is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, featuring a clunch facade faced in brick and a stone tiled roof. The building has five bays and is two storeys high, with an added stone gabled porch. To the right, there is a three-bay rear wing made of brick with a tiled roof. The windows are timber casements with segmental heads. At the left end, there is a large cross wing added between 1723 and 1724 by Mr. Townsend, which has five bays, is two storeys tall, and includes an attic. This wing is constructed in Flemish bond brick with a plat band and has a central entrance to the garden that is raised on four stone steps. The entrance features a timber panelled doorcase with a rectangular fanlight and a flat moulded wood canopy supported by plain console brackets. The cross windows have leaded glazing and iron opening casements with elaborate wrought iron catchplates and stays. The eaves are adorned with a cavetto moulding. The hipped roof includes two hipped casement dormers in the attic. The wing has two major rear stacks and small gable stacks. Inside, the wing contains reception rooms with fielded panelling, a moulded chair rail, and a cornice. A date stone on the gable of this wing, which was removed from a demolished stable, reads 'Vingt Cours/Herfordie 1596' and features a monogram. The Victoria County History translates this as COMES DE HERTFORD and states that the stone was once part of the house.
