Description

ULCOMBE KNOWLE HILL TQ 84 NE Knowle Hill 6/185 Farmhouse (formerly listed as 26.4.68 Knowle Hill Fruit Farmhouse) II

Farmhouse. C17 or earlier, with early-to-mid C19 facade. Timber framed. Ground floor clad with small blocks of evenly coursed stone with brick dressings, first floor with red brick in Flemish bond. Tile-hanging and exposed framing to rear elevation. Plain tile roof. Built at right-angles to road. 2 storeys on stone plinth. Roof hipped to left. Slender brick stack to left end and broad multiple brick ridge stack with corbelled top, off-centre to right. Irregular fenestration of 4 windows; three 16-pane glazing-bar sashes of different sizes, and one tripartite sash, all in open boxes. Ground floor windows have segmental relieving arches. Boarded door towards left end and half-glazed door beneath stack, the latter up 7 steps, both with flat bracketted hoods. Brick lean-to to left. Stone lean-to to right incorporating re-used durns. Right gable end has braces curved beneath rafters to suggest wagon roof. Interior not inspected.
