Description
Knowle Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a facade from the early to mid-19th century. It is timber framed, with the ground floor clad in small blocks of evenly coursed stone and brick dressings, while the first floor features red brick in Flemish bond. The rear elevation has tile-hanging and exposed framing. The roof is covered with plain tiles and is hipped to the left. The building stands at right angles to the road and has two storeys on a stone plinth.
The roof has a slender brick stack at the left end and a broad multiple brick ridge stack with a corbelled top, which is off-centre to the right. The windows are irregularly arranged, consisting of four windows: three 16-pane glazing-bar sashes of varying sizes and one tripartite sash, all set in open boxes. The ground floor windows have segmental relieving arches. There is a boarded door towards the left end and a half-glazed door beneath the stack, which is accessed by seven steps; both doors have flat bracketed hoods. A brick lean-to is located to the left, while a stone lean-to on the right incorporates re-used durns. The right gable end features braces that curve beneath the rafters, suggesting a wagon roof. The interior has not been inspected.
